Few questions
I got few questions about mesmers.
What are their pros and cons? How to use attribute points, or do I have to save them until lvl20? What would be good secondary class? How to get fame, and what to do with it? |

Pros and cons: generally shunned in PvE even though they are quite useful. Join an accepting guild if you want to team with others through the game. They can be fun to play - but that is a player preference thing.
You use attribute points to increase the effectiveness of your skills and should apply them immediately and rearrange them when in a town as needed for the build you are using. For 2nd, necro for additional curses is good. Monk is OK as well, fast-casting rez is never bad. Dunno about fame, must be a PvP thing, look it up on guildwiki. |

Pros - Very Very good 1v1. Can shut down all spellcasters with ease. Can hinder melee characters very well(Ineptitude=pwnage). They are a fun class to play. Invaluable in late game situations where shutting down spellcasters can make or break a mission.
Cons - Very fragile as with all casters. Common targets in PvP adn PvE. As the late Rodney Dangerfield would say, "They got no respect!" or at least less than they deserve. You can change attribute points whenever your in town so nothign is set in stone. I'd go with ele or necro. Fast cast can cut down on some of those long casting ele and necro skills. Really up to you. You get fame by by winning PvP battles in HA(Hero's Ascent). It doesn't do too much except make it much more likely that other teams will let you join them in HA. Higher Rank makes you more desirable in HA. |

Just a note in case you were wondering: There is a difference between attribute points and skill points.
Attribute points can be distributed to make your skills more effective, and as noted, can be changed at will in any town. (You are never locked in to any build like in other games.) Use them immediately. You can also augment your attribute points with the application of runes to your armor. Watch out, some runes subtract health so you may want to just use "minor" ones until you are a higher level. Skill points are used to purchase skills. If you have the first Guild Wars, make sure you are not purchasing skills you will gain as quest rewards, because you get a LOT of skills for free that way. EDIT: Mesmers ROCK!!!! |

Mes can also inflict massive degen which is also very useful. They don't get that much credit and it might be hard to find a group, but mesmers can be very useful if played right.

Ok, and skill points should be saved until lvl20? People keep saying that you can make a good build at lvl20 when you got more skills, so should skill points be saved as well, or just purchase skills whenever?
Then few more nooby questions. :P I havent bought the game yet, but I'll buy propechies tomorrow. How can I travel between "GW verions"? Like if I have a character in propechies, can I use the same char, same items, same lvl in the other versions? What weapons do mesmers use? And is there some general shop you can sell items you dont need? Or do I have to sell to some spesific traders/sellers? And when is the time to choose secondary class? EDIT: If it's hard to get a group for mesmers, does it affect the gameplay much? And I've also been thinking about ranger, would it be a good option also? Hmm.. 1)You can travel characters between any campaign of GW you own through port cities (Lion's Arch for prophecies, Kaineng Center for factions and Kamadan for nightfall). The character will be exactly the same in terms of armor lvl etc., and you can use any item you have regardless of which campaign it came from.
2)Like any caster class, the default mesmers weapons are staves, wands and offhands. Nothing prevents you form wielding any weapon just be careful about requirements though. 3)You can sell anything except quest items, minipets and a few other items to any merchants. There are traders for specific items like crafting materials, runes, dye etc. Sometimes the merchant will give you more than the trader, other times, it will be the opposite. 4)You choose your secondary profession relatively early in the game, after going through ascension, you'll learn what that is soon enough , you can change it to anything you want once you do the quest required for the new secondary profession you want. 5) The wiki is your friend http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page |

Pros: Can really excell in PvP. PUGs who readily include Mesmers in their party have a greater rate of success than PUGs who don't. (That's been my personal experience as a Mesmer & other classes)
Cons: Severly underrated in PvE by many. Low armor level makes them ready targets for foes. 2: You can change your attribute points around at any time while in a town or outpost. You can re-spend them all you want. 3. Necro makes a good secondary for a Mesmer specializing in hexes. Mesmer Fast casting goes well with casting Elementalist or Monk skills. |

Look, don't let the haters make you think the mesmer is useless. they get a bad rap from folks that just didn't get the hang of them or whatever.
I've taken a mesmer and managed to complete all three campaigns using AI help or PUGS. It can be done. The one hassle you will have is that the mesmer needs a higher learning curve than most characters. You need to understand the mechanics of what the opposition is casting to effectively use interrupts and such. This makes it a bit rough for a player new to Guild Wars at times. (and leads to most of the hate) |

What about the thing, that in guide book it says: "Mesmers can be great dmg dealers, supporters or both." How can it be a good dmg dealer and support well.
EDIT: It wasnt their opinions which effected me, but one guy from my waterpolo team happened to play GW. Now I'm just thinking to be a mesmer or ele... Not about Mesmers, but I didn't wanted to create a new topic..
What does "using a skill" exactly means? Isn't every move a skill? For example: Chant. For 10 seconds, the next time each party member within earshot uses a Skill, that party member gains 40..100 Health. What to do in order to trigger that chant? Isn't a heal,attack,shout ability considered as a skill? And another question: Skills which ends an Enchantment, can we choose which Enchantment to end? Or it ends one automatically? I became a mesmer just to let you know. And took monk as the secondary class.
When I go to meet my trainer, it says me to go to wizards something.. but when I get there, a girl says me to go back to my trainer.. That's a bit confusing. What should I do in order to get new skills? If I'm going with the story, and maybe not doing all quests before I'm at post ascalon, can I miss any skill/skill point quests? |

IMHO, first time through the game, do not skip any quests. Do them all, go everywhere, talk to everyone you can.
There are (iirc) 3 trainers per primary profession, and 2 for secondary in the training area you are at. They will give you quests with skills as rewards. Just get into the habit of talking to absolutely everyone: people with ! over their head, people with [collector] after their names, etc. Everyone. Did I mention talk to everyone? |

Actually for mesmer in prophecies there are two training mesmers after the first introduction quest.
You completed a quest and gained 3 skills the first time you left ascalon city. after that, there are two more trainers. Lady Althea who is right next to the ascalon city wall in Lakeside County (exit ascalon and turn right and walk up the hill) And Vassar in Foible's Fair which is an outpost/town in Wizard's Folly. There is a second trainer for elementalists next to Vassar you are likely confusing for your trainer that is issueing directions for a secondary profession. Your monk training will be in ashford abbey and just inside the gate to green hills county from lakeside county. (Just follow the wall to the right out of ascalon city and you will get there or follow the "wall"/cliff to the left out of ashford abbey. There should be a total of three monk quests for you. Last tip for a beginning character: take your time in the presearing training area. Learn to use your skills and experiment a bit with combos. get comfortable with the interface and whatnot. I would even recommend staying until level 7 or 8 rather than rushing out early to get on with the game. The extra experience and stats from the levels will make the next step a little easier on you. |
